==> there's a gigantic bookshelf in the living room, each row neatly organised. every book looks old, their pages are scribbled and worn out. the owner notices you looking, and gives you free reign to read anything you like. you pick one of the books, just to skim it, but you get lost inside its words...
welcome to my link library!!!
here's a big collection with links of all kinds. i curate homepages, articles, resources, fun stuff and miscellaneous things. basically, if i find something interesting and worth-sharing while surfing the web, it'll be here. i focus on adding cool hidden gems (even though there's some old stuff most people reading this already know about :p)
if i add something found in any link collection similar to this one, i'll be marking it with a h/t (hat tip) to thank the curator for discovering it. plus, it'll help you find good link lists too!
a collection of personal homepages and blogs i've visited and liked. maybe their design caught my eye, or they have some cool projects! i try to pick websites with true personality!
brisray's homepage: very old website (launched in 1999) but it's still getting updated! the true definition of "personal website": has a lot of interesting stories from brisray's life, pictures from travels, tutorials, lots of articles and collections regarding his interests.... plus, a really good webring collection, for those who are making their own websites!
evergreen's homepage: personal website with hacky vibes and a cool ascii art. seems a bit abandoned though, but it's still worth visiting!
kreepy keys's halloween horrortorium: a halloween themed website with lots of goodies! spooky music, ideas for halloween crafts, horror movie lists... can't wait to visit this site during october!!!
maggie's so called life (archived): what's interesting in this site is maggie's journal, i linked the first available page of it. a sad love story with many ups and downs! i'm still reading through it. it's hard to browse the rest of the site because the archive is very broken though. (h/t hekate)
sarah ruyle's homepage: (EPILEPSY WARNING: LOTS OF FLASHING COLORS IN THIS SITE!!!) a very talented animator/artist's website!!! their art seems to be inspired by nature and green gardens, and they have a surreal crayon-colored style that i really dig. i recommend their short film "a lot of rabbits"
magazines, themathic blogs and the likes. in this section i picked sites with interesting and thoughtful articles, and be sure i've spent hours reading them! i also try to link at least one article per site in the articles section!
alexandra's cafe: one of my favourite websites of all time!!! a collection of beautiful short poems and stories, accompanied with ascii art. it's framed as a virtual cafe, every story being a different drink you're ordering. hosted on the gemini:// protocol, if you don't have a gemini browser then use this proxy here
bleeding skull: features and reviews on b-movie horror! i really love shitty films, specially shitty horror, so this is a good resource to find stuff for my watchlist
e-flux journal: a monthly magazine about contemporary art, philosophy and social theory. their archive is very big, as they've been publishing stuff since 2008. recommended article: "in defense of the poor image"
tecnolocuras: blog sobre tecnología antigua, la indie web y programación.
welcome.jpeg: a virtual magazine whose main theme is post-internet culture. has essays and interviews about contemporary art, avant-garde music, fashion, among others. recommended article: TBD
resources
a bunch of collections with different kinds of resources. these are very interesting sites to explore if you want to learn things or need material for your projects! plus, there's some useful tools you can use
cyberarts and cyberculture research initiative: old and broken academic website with lots of stuff about net art. seems to be completely abandoned </3. found the "cyberspace web by george landow" section while researching stuff about jean baudrillard, this has a lot of articles and essays about hypertext art, critical theory, cyberspace and etc.
declarations project: very interesting research project about web design, and css specifically. their approach is poetic and artistic, and they see css as a transdisciplinary artform with visual, political and cultural importance. fascinating stuff!!! they have a great collection of net art and web design resources.
"design for beginings" dashboard: a guide for those who want to learn graphic design from zero. this is what i'm gonna follow to learn the fundamentals so i become a better web dev!
scripted's resources: a great place for those who want to make a personal website!!! lots of cool borders for your pictures, custom music players, cursors, scripts of all kinds and lots more. it's the place where i found the little cat on my home page!!!
stamp maker: an intuitive stamp creator! a little buggy, but serviceable. i've made a couple already! i recommend you to optimize your background images so they're 500kb or less, as i've noticed the tool crashes when using bigger files.
ubuweb: one of my favorite sites EVER!!! a giant library of avant-garde art. includes films, sound, poetry, essays, comics, zines and a whole bunch of other stuff. an invaluable resource!!!!! i love to pick random names in the film section and be amazed by the weird shorts i find on there
the ultimate oldschool pc font resource: cool website for those who love old tech! has a big collection of pixel-perfect fonts ripped from old pcs with ms-dos. perfect to install on your terminal or to make a retro-styled website!
fun
games, experiments, interactive websites and stuff to pass the time! a section i recommend for those days where boredom is killing you!
goldfishies: 3d gold fishes on your desktop! feed them and look at them swim for their food. you can put them on your website too!
html genetic walkers algorithm: a neat experiment written in html5. watch a bunch of stupid biped walkers try to walk and fail a million times! keep it running an entire night, and they might have mastered the art of walking in the morning! you can set up all kinds of parameters to customize the experiment
where is the sky of a website?: part of the declarations project. someone asked the titular question on a forum, and this is the result: a fun visual representation of the "sky" of a website according to various users
essays/articles/etc
interesting articles found thorough the web. short stories, essays, reviews, non-fiction pieces, and more...
"in defense of the poor image", by hito steyerl: obligatory reading!!! a magnificient essay about the beauty of compressed images, and the meaning they hold inside a web that moves way too fast.
"serbian ballerinas with machine guns: the cosmic vision of refbatch", by jackie wang (archived): one of my favorite essays of ALL TIME!!! pure empathy for the mysterious schizophrenic figure of "refbatch", a woman with mental illness that used to upload multiple videos per day on her youtube channel. it tries to analyze her vision and why she does what she does, and it is written beautifully. obligatory read for those who admire outsider minds. plus, my favorite photograph of all time is in this essay!!!
"soft corruptor", by vanhi capildeo: beautiful interactive poem about a very specific feeling: wanting to see the out-of-bounds zones in videogames. it's structured like a short text adventure game (sort of). beautiful!!!
radio stations
don't know what to listen to? tired of playlists and recommendations created by algorithms? here's some cool internet radio stations with a great curation of songs!
halloween radio: 5 different radio stations with a halloween theme! haven't listened a lot to this one, but there's cool post-punk songs in the main station sometimes. there's horror movie soundtracks, atmospheric music and kids tunes in the other radios. (h/t kreepy keys)
jet set radio future live: a collection of radio stations inspired by the game jet set radio!!! includes soundtracks from various games, others based on specific characters and even miscellaneous music (e.g. chiptunes station, lo-fi station, etc). plus a chatroom, a tv station simulator and a graffiti wall everyone can edit
kexp: a virtual radio station that (i think) operates from san francisco. they play music from a multitude of genres, mostly from alternative/indie artists. one of my favorites, i always discover pretty good stuff from here! they have some cool live performances on their youtube channel too.
somafm: a collection of more than 30 independent radio stations! has stations with genres like metal, indie pop, ambient, 60s pop, vaporwave, and many more.
miscellaneous
sites that don't fit in any of the categories above but that still deserve to be showcased!
art gallery of ballarat: website for an art gallery in australia. it's here mostly because of its web layout (it's beautiful), but there's a couple interesting articles too. plus you get to see some of the artworks they possess
textfiles collection: a museum of usenet, bulletin boards and late 80's / early 90's web. very old stuff!!! it's mostly a lot of text files they uploaded in these archaic forums. very interesting to see how the internet used to be even before web browsers were a thing
