this rating system applies to every work i rate on sites like letterboxd, rateyourmusic, storygraph, among others. keep in mind my rates are subjective and any given work might go up or down with no discernible reason!!! i might give a very good movie a 5/10 rate just because i didn't enjoy it, don't @ me
i made this page because sometimes i doubt whether to give something a high or low rate, and this will make a good reference for me!!!
the lowest of the low. there is nothing redeemable about these works, they're either the pinnacle of incompetency, or express something so evil you cannot EVER separate the message from its form. if i could go back in time to about experiencing these, i would.
bordering on unwatchable/unlistenable/etc. might have some reedeming qualities, but i would not recommend them to most people, as they not only are offensively bad but even maybe boring!
stuff that i simply did not like. i can see there's talent put in display here, but there's pretty strong reasons for me not enjoying these, probably some qualities or creative choices that i actively disliked. in this layer we start to find "so bad it's good" works, and maybe stuff acclaimed by critics/public that just didn't jibe with me at all!!!
works with high potential to be so much more than what they are!!! nothing on here really screams "terrible" nor "amazing". plus, maybe i just did not connect with any of these works for X or Y reason, it's stuff that does not align with my tastes at all. yet i can't say anything bad about it.
no strong impressions one way or the other. i probably forgot how these works made me feel 3-4 days after experiencing them. the most subjective rate on here, i've given 5/10 to some works people consider masterpieces that i didn't like, but since they're technical marvels or high achievements in narrative they ended up in here. the default "meh" rate lmao. some might be deserving of a rewatch to have a better opinion (but not all)
we're getting to The Good Shit now!!! works that i liked and would recommend to some people depending on their tastes. yet they lack something that make them excel compared to other releases. i probably perceived big flaws around too. still, they're a good time.
solid works that don't really lack anything, and are good examples of well done works in their respective genres. most people would probably enjoy these (or at least not-hate them), so i'd recommend no matter ones' tastes. i really really like these works!!!
the heavy hitters. influential and innovative works that mark the direction their respective genres should take, and/or works that conquered the formulas they're following. this is the layer where i start getting attached to stuff, i love some of these.
absolute perfection, the peak of their respective genres. works with no perceived flaws in any aspect, excellent from top to bottom. some of these are my favourites of all time and i cherish them so much!!! i would rewatch/relisten/etc over and over and over!!!
works that made me feel emotions i have never felt before. art i will forever carry in my heart. i wouldn't be the person i am today had i not experienced these works, and some of them are strong reasions why i am still alive. i will never forget these. i can cry hard while rewatching/relistening/etc (and i don't weep easily!!!)
